Hi! My name's Yee and I'm a glassaholic! I've been creating with glass for over three years now. I got bitten by the bug when I was looking for a way to add some flair to my custom bag creations. I had set out to find a glass artist to create unique zipper pulls and dangles but found myself taking on the challenge myself. I no longer make custom bags but have fully succumbed to the glass calling. So maybe you're wondering how I came to choose The Glass Turtle as my moniker. Well....it was a spin off my custom bag business which was known as Two Turtles. The Two Turtles came from a late night golf game in which there was more goofing off than golf and which featured my husband (then boyfriend) running after turtles at the water hazards insteading of hitting the darn ball! Somehow turtles stuck...the two is him and me. Put it all together and voila! Two Turtles. Actually it's kinda karmic that I chose to go with turtles as they are a symbol of prosperity in Chinese culture and hey....I AM Chinese!
But back to glass! All of my glass beads are created by me in my garage studio. I have to tell you how unhappy it's made my hubby. Not only do I get a room for all my sewing stuff but now I'm taking over HIS garage too =) Luckily for both of us I hope to be moving my "studio" indoors in the near future. Perhaps I'll document the do-over for those of you looking to set up your own studios in-house!
I use a variety of different types of glass such as Effetre, Vetrofond, Kugler, Lauscha, Bullseye, and Uroboros. I work on a Minor burner with natural gas and and dual oxygen concentrators. All my beads are carefully annealed in a digitally controlled kiln for longevity and durability.
I hope you enjoy your browsing and hope you'll take the time to drop me a note if you have any questions or comments.
Thanks for dropping by!
-Yee
